Sink to play in Clash of the Carolinas
Jaden Sink, a two-time all-state defender who won CPC Defensive Player of the Year in 2025, will play in the Clash of the Carolinas on June 21 in Charlotte. The soccer game matches the top high school seniors from North Carolina and South Carolina.
Illing starting new football program
Doug Illing, who spent 15 years here and left as the winningest football coach in Davie history, has a new challenge on his plate: He will be the first coach at a brand new program. Southeastern Christian Academy in Shallotte, where Mike Absher is the boys basketball coach and athletic director, will play its first football game on the middle school level in 2026.
“He’s coming in this summer and he’s going to be a weight-room-strength-and-conditioning guy for one year, and then in the fall of 2026 our goal is to play middle school football,” Absher said. “And we will take it from middle school and build it up and hopefully be playing varsity football in the coming years. He is fired up.”
Illing led the War Eagles from 1998 through 2012, winning eight CPC championships and racking up 127 victories. Absher is No. 1 in wins (245) for Davie boys basketball. He guided the program from 2002-03 through 2020-21.
