Reese has football offer from Cornell
Davie has three football players who have received Division-I offers. One is Gavin Reese, a rising senior who plays defensive back and returns kicks. His offer is from Cornell. Rising junior linebacker Elijah Chaffin (Marshall, Appalachian State) and rising senior receiver Ethan Driver (Gardner-Webb) are the other two.
Lankford wins NC Amateur
Jeffrey Lankford, 61, won the 39th North Carolina Amateur at the Country Club of Salisbury on May 8. The tournament was 72 holes of stroke play over three days. By shooting 72, 5-under 66 and 71, Lankford defeated the runner-up by five strokes.
Pittman inducted into his third HOF
Davie boys basketball coach Josh Pittman, 49, was inducted into his third hall of fame on May 9. He was inducted into the Winston-Salem Forsyth County High School Sports Hall of Fame at the Benton Convention Center.
Pittman was a basketball star at East Forsyth from 1990-94. He made the All-Metro Conference team as a junior and senior, and he was named to the All-Northwest team those same years. As a senior, he was the Metro Conference Player of the Year and made all-state honorable mention. As a junior, he averaged 18.6 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists. As a senior, he averaged 24.7 points, 7 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2 assists. He finished with 1,105 career points.
JV soccer loses final game
In the final game of the season on May 7, Davie’s JV soccer team lost 3-0 at home to Reynolds. While the Demons improved to 13-1-1, Davie finished with a 5-8-1 record.
Hunter golfs in regional tournament
Davie junior golfer Braxton Hunter represented Davie in the Midwest Regional on May 6 at Stonebridge in Monroe. Hunter, who qualified for the regional by shooting a 79 in the CPC Tournament, shot 16-over 88. He collected eight pars on the day while tying for 67th place out of 70 players.
The co-medalists had 67s. They were Marvin Ridge senior Chase McEvoy and Northwest Guilford sophomore Cameron Harvey.
