Make no mistake about it – James Renfro wants Davie County children to have plenty under the Christmas tree.
Maybe it’s those bright red suspenders, or the toy train on his bright red hat, or the placards on the side of his truck, or even those stuffed animals that line the seats of his truck.
James Renfro is the new coordinator for Davie’s Toys for Tots program, coordinated by the US Marine Corps Reserve. The goal: to make sure every child has something they want at Christmas.
Renfro said he had plenty as a child, but other children had more. He’s taken to his new volunteer job with gusto.
“I just like helping kids,” he said. “As I was growing up, I didn’t get a lot and I want to make sure kids who need something can get something.”
Expect to see the Toys for Tots boxes across the county, at the police department, the fire departments, in restaurants and businesses. New, unwrapped toys are requested. Cash is also accepted, so new toys can be purchased.
All of the toys go to children in Davie County, Renfro said.
The program is taking applications from families for assistance through Nov. 30. Contact Renfro at 336-671-6094 or james.renfro1953@outlook.com.
