Park, sewer projects OKd

Davie County is moving forward with two major projects – repurposing the old Davie High School site for a county park, and building a new sewer system in eastern Davie.
County commissioners last month approved an agreement with Twin City Sports for use of the old football stadium at the high school. The group that focuses on soccer and lacrosse will use the stadium for 150 hours a year, and will also pay the up-front cost for adding artificial turf to the field. That cost, including stadium upgrades and a turf grooming machine, is expected to cost $1 million.
The county will pay back the costs over a 10-year period.
The association will also sell sponsorships or naming rights for the stadium, and split the revenue 50/50 with the county.

The county awarded a $14.9 million contract to Hall Contracting Corp. to build the eastern Davie sewage distribution system. Total cost of that project will be close to $18 million, and county commission chair, Terry Renegar, said that bids are lower than anticipated. The county also was awarded a $2 million grant to help pay for the improvements.
It will include a new pump station on the Yadkin River, and the sewage will be pumped across the river to Forsyth County, eventually to the Muddy Creek treatment plant.
County officials said the new system will not only allow more capacity, but the county will pay Forsyth utilities less than the current rate.
