Family Promise get $10,0000 donation

On Thursday, Aug. 30, the EnergyUnited Foundation presented a $10,000 check to Family Promise of Davie County to help stop homelessness to families in the area.
Nearly 70,000 EnergyUnited members choose to round up their electric bills each month as part of the Operation Round-Up Program. This money is granted to needy individuals, families, and non-profit organizations like Family Promise that complete an application expressing needs in their community and beyond.
Family Promise is a national organization formed in 1986 in New Jersey. In 1988, Family Promise began replicating the program model nationally. Family Promise was introduced to Davie County in 2015, and FPDC became the 200th affiliate nationwide.
FPDC officially became a non-profit in June of 2016. In July of 2017 it hired its first executive director and opened the doors of the Day Center. FPDC started serving families in September of 2017 and graduated its first families in November of 2017.
Since then, they have celebrated birthdays and holidays, witnessed babies’ first steps, laughed, cried, and experienced life with the people of Davie County.
“Family Promise serves in the same neighbors helping neighbors spirit as the EnergyUnited Foundation,” said Debra Citta, EnergyUnited foundation administrator. “We are so pleased to be able to assist them in their effort to prevent and end family homelessness in Davie County, one family at a time.”
Family Promise of Davie is one of 10 affiliates selected for the second cycle of grants through HUMI, a Washington state-based nonprofit working with communities to fund and create programs helping families facing housing crises.
“We are honored to partner with HUMI and the EnergyUnited Foundation to ensure children are homeless no more,” said Family Promise of Davie Executive Director Lisa Foster. “This program will allow us to serve many more families with children in our community. Not only will we have funding to assist families in our program get back into housing, but we will also have funds to help prevent families from becoming homeless in the first place. We passionately believe that every family has promise and every child deserves a home. This program will allow us to better live out our mission.”
