It didn’t take Lindsey Adams, who resigned as Davie’s girls basketball coach in June, long to find another head coaching job. Forty-five miles down the road, she landed at Bandys High in Catawba.
“I was grateful for the opportunity that (Davie) gave me to be a head coach, not having any experience,” the 27-year-old told Paul Schenkel of The Paper. “I learned a lot and I think I grew in those five years. I found out a lot about myself as a coach and what I wanted my coaching philosophy to be. It was a lot of trial and figuring it out, but we had a lot of community support and I’m super proud of the players we had for buying in.”
Unlike her arrival at Davie in 2020, Adams will not face a massive rebuilding project. Bandys has a distinguished history, winning six state championships and going 18-9 while reaching the third round of the 2-A playoffs last season. Plus, the top three scorers are returning, including two who averaged 15-plus points.
“I’m excited to move closer to home, and I’ve already watched some film,” said Adams, who grew up in Morganton. “Taking over after coach (Barbara) Helms, they already have the defensive pressure and intensity that I like my teams to play with. So it’s not like when I was at Davie starting at ground zero. They have a rich tradition and I know the community, the booster club, the athletic director, the administration. They’re just super supportive of coaches and athletics, and that is something I’m really excited to be a part of.”
