Independence Day celebrations in Davie County include a parade and familiy activities in Cooleemee on Friday, and a concert and fireworks display at the Davie Community Park in Mocksville on Saturday evening.
The annual Lawnmower Parade kicks things off in Cooleemee at 10 a.m. But it’s not just for lawnmowers, there are kids on bicycles, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, classic automobiles, tractors. It’s free to enter and there’s only one rule: decorate the entry with a patriotic red, white and blue theme. Anyone wanting to enter should be at the elementary school on Marginal Street by 9 a.m.
The parade will wind through Cooleemee streets before ending at the Zachary House, where the party continues.
At the Zachary House, there will be free watermelon and popsicles for everyone, hotdogs and a drinks available for purchase, and a huge slippery slide for the kids.

The Davie Community Park on Saturday evening will host live music, food, and fireworks. The park is located on Southwood Drive, just off US 601 South in Mocksville.
Bring a lawn chair for seating. Food will be available for purchase from Eric & K’s BBQ, West Coast Wanderer, Kibi’s Crazy Casserole, and B’s Grill. Get a sweet treat from other available vendors like Scoops N More, Carnival Treats and Bakery, Lemon ‘N’ Dough, or Sno Biz of Mocksville.
Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase for guests, courtesy of Davie County Chamber and Tourism. There will be two tents: one where guests aged 21 and above must purchase a wristband for $5 before buying alcoholic beverages, and a second tent where selections will be available from RH Barringer. No cash will be accepted, credit cards only. Wristband proceeds benefit the park, while alcohol proceeds will go to programs sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
Local husband and wife folk duo His & Hers opens the show at 6:30 p.m. with their signature blend of bluegrass and Americana.
Headlining the night is Gary Lowder & Smokin’ Hot, a genre-blending party band that brings soul, funk, beach music, jazz, and more. Their extensive repertoire appeals to audiences across generations, featuring both timeless classics and contemporary hits.
End the night with fireworks, with the best views from inside the park.
