Beginning Sunday night, June 29, through Wednesday night, July 2, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close eastbound Interstate 40 between Exit 174 (Farmington Road) and Exit 180 (N.C. 801) each night to allow crews to safely demolish the Pinebrook School Road bridge that spans I-40.
The nightly closures will start at 11 p.m. and reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning. During the closure hours, motorists traveling eastbound on I-40 will be directed off the highway at Exit 174 and follow a signed detour route via Farmington Road, U.S.158, and N.C. 801 to reconnect with I-40 at Exit 180.
Access to the Davie County I-40 Rest Area at mile marker 177 will be unavailable from the eastbound direction during the nightly closures.
In conjunction with the eastbound closures on Sunday night, crews will also close the inside lane of westbound I-40 from mile marker 176 to mile marker 175 beginning at 9 p.m., reopening by 6 a.m. Monday morning. This westbound lane closure is limited to Sunday night only.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and follow posted detour signage.
