Davie County High School has named Nathan Stephens as the new head coach of the men’s soccer program. A familiar face in the Davie athletic community, Stephens brings a solid track record in coaching and a deep understanding of the program’s potential.
A resident of Davie County, Stephens is no stranger to the War Eagle soccer family. He led both the men’s and women’s programs at Davie from 2019-21, steering them through challenging seasons and cultivating a competitive, resilient culture. His teams reached notable milestones under his guidance, including a dominant 5-1 victory over East Rowan in 2019 that broke a long-standing drought and a landmark 2-0 win over East Forsyth in 2021- the women’s team’s first Central Piedmont Conference victory over the Eagles since 2017.
“Nathan brings a combination of experience, passion and discipline to this position,” said Tim Devericks, Athletic Director at Davie. “Throughout his tenure, Stephens has emphasized fundamentals, tactics and player growth, fostering competitiveness even during transitional seasons.”
A graduate of Southwest Guilford High School, where he played in two state championships and scored 95 career goals, Stephens earned his degree at High Point University, where he also honed his skills as a striker. Since 2021, he has served as head and assistant coach for the North Davie Middle School boys’ and girls’ programs, contributing to the success of the 2022-23 boys’ team that finished 15-1.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Stephens is entering his fourth year as a support specialist at Davie County Early College High School, where he is known for his dedication to academic support, mentoring and leadership development. He is invested in the community and eager to usher in a new era of soccer success.
“It’s exciting to be back at Davie at this time,” said Stephens. “Having coached many of these boys through middle school and watched them playing JV and varsity, I believe this will make for a smooth and natural transition. I believe this group has the potential to accomplish things we haven’t seen in 10 or even 15 years. I want to thank the administration for this opportunity and can’t wait to get to work.”
Stephens will begin leading the program immediately. He and his staff are finalizing summer training plans to prepare for what promises to be an exciting 2025 season.
