Davie County High School has announced the return of Brett Hewitt as head coach of the men’s lacrosse program. A highly respected leader in the lacrosse community with over two decades of coaching experience, Hewitt previously helped establish and lead the Davie program from 2014-22. He returns with a renewed vision and a proven record of success at the collegiate level.
Since stepping away from the high school post, Hewitt has served as the head men’s lacrosse coach at Wake Forest University, where he led the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) program to national prominence. Under his leadership, Wake Forest has achieved a 79% win percentage and secured the Atlantic Lacrosse Conference (ALC) Championship in 2025. The team has qualified for the ALC Tournament every year during his tenure and earned a national ranking inside the top 20 since 2022. His program produced seven collegiate All-Americans and led the nation in All-Academic Team selections for the past two years.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Hewitt back to Davie High,” said Davie Athletic Director Tim Devericks. “Coach Ross and the team had a historic season this past spring, and Brett is eager to build on that momentum.”
A resident of Davie County, Hewitt is deeply invested in the community and the future of the sport. He currently serves as vice president and secretary of the Atlantic Lacrosse Conference and remains active in youth development through Davie Rec Lacrosse.
“I’ve always believed that a structured, disciplined and positive athletic program is one of the most powerful ways to influence young men,” said Hewitt. “I’m committed to building a championship-caliber program that represents Davie County with pride. With the talent currently in the program and the skilled youth players on the way, I believe we are poised for something truly special.”
Hewitt brings not only a wealth of coaching knowledge and strategy but also extensive experience in player development and program building. He will begin his new role immediately and is already working with assistant coaches Jim Butler and Tripp Kelly to prepare for summer training and the upcoming season.
