Death by distribution: Greensboro man charged after opiod death here in November

If you give or sell someone illegal narcotics in Davie County and they die from taking those drugs, you could be in a lot of trouble.
A Greensboro man found that out last week when he was indicted by a Davie Grand Jury for death by distribution.
The case had been investigated by the Davie Sheriff’s Office, after a body was found in the Days Inn on Yadkinville Road in Mocksville on Nov. 30, 2024.
Preston J. Hamrick, 24, was charged with felony death by distribution in the death of Conner Mitchell Dillon. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $250,000 bond. If convicted, he could be sentenced to more than 19 years in prison.
Officers first responded to a “medical emergency” at the hotal on Nov. 30, said Davie Sheriff J.D. Hartman.
“Deputies located Dillon, who was deceased. The initial investigation indicated that Dillon had died of an untentional overdose,” Hartman said.
“An extensive six-month investigation that included autopsy evidence, interviews, surveillance, and multiple search warrants, revealed that Dillon died form an overdose on fentanyl and hycrocodone that was supplied by Preston Hamrick.”
The case was presented to the Grand Jury on May 12.
“This demonstrates the commitment by the Davie County Sheriff’s Office to throoughly investigate crimes involving narcotics, including the delivery, sharing of, or sale of drugs that cause a person’s death utilizing the deaby by distribution law.”
