New businesses opening downtown

As everyone in Davie County knows, shopping in Downtown Mocksville has been limited for many years.
This spring and summer, this will be changing.
Two new retail stores are opening. Scarlett’s Unique Boutique at 128 N. Main St. is open, with the grand opening April 11.
Honor Darling at 135 N. Main St. will open this summer.
“These stores will be a great addition to the already beautiful Downtown Mocksville,” said Gail Scarlett. “Not only can you come downtown to enjoy the restaurants, but you can get some shopping done while you are there, too.”
Scarlett’s Unique Boutique was started to give artisans in Davie and surrounding counties a place to showcase and sell their handmade items year round. Many of the artisans are participating in craft fairs that Mocksville has during the year, but there was no place that they could sell their items or advertise their products the rest of the year.
At Scarlett’s, the artisans lease and decorate their own booths, and the booths act as their stores.
The boutique was started by Tony and Gail Scarlett, with the help of Susan Scarlett. The boutique will be operated by Gail Scarlett, Susan Scarlett, and with the help of a few of the artisans.
Scarlett’s will offer a “Kids Craft Evening” at least monthly, when parents can bring their children, pay a fee, and the child will leave with a personally made craft.
During this time, the parents can enjoy a child-free dinner across the street at one of the local restaurants.
There will be a “Meet the Artisan Night,” where the public can meet the people who make the items, and there will also be “how to” classes throughout the month that are taught by the artisans. Photographers will offer portraits on scheduled days.

Honor Darling is a trend-savvy specialty shop that made debut in November 2014 via shopping parties, Facebook, and the shop webpage. Honor Darling offers unique, on-trend clothing and accessories for women. New pieces and a children’s line will make a debut when the shop opens downtown this summer.

“Please come out and support local business and help us to keep the welcoming atmosphere that Downtown Mocksville already has,” Gail Scarlett said.
