On Feb. 2, members of the Next Chapter Book Club at the Davie County Public Library hosted some feathered friends.

The club is reading the book “Chicken Boy” by Frances O’Rourk Dowell. To foster more understanding of chickens, they invited Ashton and Ben Connor to share some chickens from their home. They brought five chickens.

“NCBC’s are for persons with developmental differences, so we like to enhance the readings in a variety of ways,” said Julie Whittaker, NCBC facility and youth services librarian. “Sometimes we watch a movie of the book, or visit websites to learn more.

“Having a connection to the Conners, both chicken lovers, was a wonderful way to provide a live experience for our club members. Our club members were excited to meet the chickens  Ben and Ashton were wonderful presenters.”

NCBC meets on Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Davie County Public Library on North Main Street in Mocksville.
