William R Davie Second Steps students enjoy every Tuesday and Thursday.
Each student has a volunteer tutor who comes to the school to tutor them one-to-one for 45 minutes with instructional level reading, word study and spelling, independent level reading and reading to the student.
Students have studied the craft and style of authors and illustrators during the sessions this year.
They enjoyed a Christmas Santa’s workshop with the tutors before getting out for the two-week break. They created tin punch ornaments, Rudolph cookie, Rudolph necklace and enjoyed Christmas bingo. Each student received the gift of two books from their tutor. The students presented their tutor with a handmade ornament featuring their picture and a card with a picture of the child with his/her tutor.
“William R. Davie is blessed to have so many committed volunteers that are invested in the students in the community,” said Luwonna Oakes.
