Mr. Dewey Carter “DC” Redmond, 86, of Mocksville, died on Oct. 23, 2016.

He was born on Oct. 23,1930, in Iredell County, the son of late Conrad Ernest and Daisy Lee Woody Redmond.  He graduated from Union Grove High School in 1949. He went on to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard as a chief gunners mate from 1950-1953. In 1957, he graduated from Guilford College with a degree in history, and later went on to receive a masters degree in criminal justice. In 1959, he became the youngest principal ever hired by the Davie County School System where he served as a teacher and basketball coach.  He went on to pursue a career in state government where he retired in 1992, as a supervisor of probation and parole for four NC counties. Those he worked, taught and counseled with, so often gave him credit for helping to change their lives for the better. In 1953, he married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Willa Belle Johnson Redmond. Their unity exemplified the loving body of Christ and was a Holy example to all who knew them. He loved, protected and adored her until the day he died. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, listening to music and walking at the YMCA. He was a master checkers player and could count on one hand the number of times that he had ever been beaten by an opponent. However, his greatest pleasure in life came from loving, protecting and taking care of his wife and family. He was a man of God. He lived his life as a testament to his Lord and Savior, serving God and professing his faith throughout his life. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Mocksville for more than 60 years. He served in many capacities at church including chair of the deacons, Sunday school teacher and chair and member of committees. He felt that the church members were his family. He was happy, patient, kind, loyal and humble. He was a member of Grassy Knob Masonic Lodge AF&AM 471 for 66 years. His favorite hymns were “I’ll Fly Away” and “Oh Come Angel Band.” His favorite chapter of the Bible was Hebrews 12.

He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Hansel Vera Redmond and Helen Bernice Groppenbacher.
