Davie County High School will celebrate its 61st and final homecoming at War Eagle Stadium on Friday, Oct. 14.

Homecoming 2016 will begin on Monday, Oct. 10 with a host of events for the week culminating in the football matchup against North Davidson High School beginning at 7:30 p.m.

On Aug. 30, the senior class nominated 16 females from its class for homecoming queen.  This ballot will be presented to the student body on Tuesday, Oct. 12 to select the queen and her court.  Results will be kept secret until the crowning during halftime.

The following is a list of the nominees.

• Riley Ball is the daughter of Dean and Robin Ball.  She will be escorted by her father.

• Caroline Bandy is the daughter of Darryl and Gina Bandy.  She will be escorted by her father.

• Hunter Barnes is the daughter of Todd and Andra Barnes. She will be escorted by her father.

• Lyndsay Crotts is the daughter of Darren and Kim Crotts. She will be escorted by her father.

• Laurel Hecht is the daughter of Mark and Suzie Hecht. She will be escorted by her father.

• Madison Hooker is the daughter of Jason and Amy Hooker.  She will be escorted by her father.

• Anna Jones is the daughter of Brad and Melanie Jones. She will be escorted by her father.

• Healy Junker is the daughter of Clint and Katy Junker. She will be escorted by her father.

• Mary Ellen Lewis is the daughter of Mary Christine Lewis. She will be escorted by her uncle, Tommy Parr.

• Kalyx Lyons is the daughter of Janice Lyons. She will be escorted by her mother.

• Ashton Mann is the daughter of John and Suzanne Mann. She will be escorted by her father.

• Gracie O’Brien is the daughter of David and Lori O’Brien. She will be escorted by her father.

• K’Lea Parks is the daughter of Shannon and Crystal Shoffner. She will be escorted by her mother.

• Abigail Shaver is the daughter of Bob and Michele Shaver. She will be escorted by her father.

• Kailan Thomas is the daughter of Kyle and Molly Thomas. She will be escorted by her father.

• Carly Thompson is the daughter of Randy and Christy Thompson. She will be escorted by her father.

Fans planning to attend the game are reminded to arrive early to get a seat and to see the arrival of the homecoming nominees at 7 p.m. as they circle the track in an array of classic cars including several from the first year DHS opened.

Sarah Fortescue, 2015 Homecoming Queen, will lead the procession of candidates.  Homecoming Queen nominees and their escorts will take to the field to be introduced during halftime. Former homecoming queens representing each decade from the school’s opening in 1956 will be in attendance. Fortescue will crown the 2016 queen.

Since this is the final Homecoming at the school’s 1200 Salisbury Road address, former cheerleaders and dancing boots will have a chance to celebrate one last time on the track. Alumni cheerleaders may choose to attend one or both practices scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 13 from 6-8 p.m.  Dancing boots should contact Susan Wall or Colleen Pitts on Facebook.

Students may participate in the following Spirit Week activities:  Monday, Under the Sea Day; Tuesday, Squad Day; Wednesday, Character Day; Thursday, Throwback Thursday Day; and Friday, Orange and Black School Spirit Day.

On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., the Student Government Association will sponsor a Powder Puff football game with sophomore and senior girls vs. freshmen and junior girls. There is no cost to attend, but donations will be accepted. Money will be contributed to the Daric Beiter Extra Mile Scholarship Fund and the American Cancer Society in memory of Josh Rominger. A bonfire and pep rally will follow in the student parking lot.

Lunchtime games during the week will be presented by Donna Dunn’s leadership class.

Homecoming nominees will be introduced at the bonfire Wednesday night and at the pep rally during fourth period Friday.

Alumni are invited to share their memories of DHS through video. Students of Michael Poller, video productions teacher, will be on site to video students, teachers, alumni, and community members as they tell their stories of time spent at DHS. The video will be part of a time capsule to be placed at the school’s new location on Farmington Road.
