Edna Jean Wilkes Waldrop

Edna Jean Wilkes Waldrop, 85, of Mocksville, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at Bermuda Commons.

She was born Dec. 14, 1930, in Bessemer, Ala. to the late John William and Magnolia Davis Wilkes, and she was the widow of Jacob William Waldrop. Mrs. Waldrop had a career as a secretary, working with insurance agencies and churches. She was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church where she was previously a member of the choir. She was active with the Women’s Support Group of the church and with the Prayers & Squares Quilt Ministry.

Survivors: her 3 daughters: Susan Riddle (Ronnie) of Mocksville, Donna Bird (Mark) and Ginger Taylor, both of Texas; 8 grandchildren, Sally DesNoyers, Betsy Drye, Alethea Dillow, Rebecca Riddle, Melinda Bird, Jacob Bird, Christian Taylor and Courtney Taylor; 2 great- grandchildren, Dashel DesNoyers and Luke Drye; plus several nieces and nephews. I

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bill Taylor.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 at Davie Funeral Chapel. The celebration of life service was held at 11 a.m. Friday at Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Revs. Donnie Chapman and Jimmy Lancaster officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jacob Bird, Christian Taylor, Ken Waldrop, Keith Waldrop, Jason DesNoyers and Paul Drye.
