Jackie Dale Cheeks

Jackie Dale Cheeks, 51, of Cleveland, NC died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 as a result of a vehicle accident.

He was born Aug. 15, 1965, the son of Billie Jean Woodring Cheeks of Cleveland and the late Marvin Verlin Cheeks.

Also surviving: his wife of 20 years, Lori Ann Absher Cheeks; 3 sons, Jaye Brandon Cheeks (Ashley) of Harmony, Johnathan Waller (Rebekah) of Salisbury, and Joshua Waller (Miranda) of Woodleaf; 2 brothers, Marvin Eugene “Gene” Cheeks (Beth) of Mocksville and Ricky Dean Cheeks (Ruth) of Morganton; 5 grandchildren, Mallon Cheeks, Dakota, Tyson and Zoie Waller, and Emory Bowyer; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was a graduate of West Rowan High School and employed with Piedmont Forklift Handling, Inc. He was a member of New Union United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Sheffield-Calahaln Fire Dept. where he had served as safety officer and junior member advisor. In 2011, he was awarded “Firefighter of the Year.”

The family will receive friends from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at Davie Funeral Chapel. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral chapel with the Revs. Eric Lineberry and Rodney McAllister officiating. Burial will follow in the New Union UMC Cemetery with “Fallen Firefighter’s Honors” provided by fellow firefighters of Davie County. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Allen, Andy Drye, Noah Drye, Justin Dyson, Andy Lawson and Trey Lagle; honorary pallbearers will be Mike Beeheler and Nick Collins.
