Willie Mae Carter Jones

Willie Mae Carter Jones, 94, died on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, after a period of declining health. She had been under the care of Hospice.
She was born in Danville, Va., on March 15, 1922 to the late Nezzie Sheets Carter and Samuel C. Carter. Mrs. Jones retired from the packing department of Carolina Manufacturing. She had been an active member of Cornatzer United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and worked in the nursery and taught children’s Sunday School for 38 years. She enjoyed working in her flowers, sewing and embroidery work, and especially enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She was a great cook.
She was the widow of late George L. Jones who died May 2, 1980, after 32 years of marriage.
Survivors: 3 daughters, Kathy Miller (Tim) and Gail Pope, all of Mocksville, and Diane Joyce (Don) of Advance; 4 grandchildren, Lynette Pierce (Rodney), Tina Coffey (Jason), Kevin Miller and Jessica Pope (Andrew Swaringen); 4 great-grandchildren, Jackson and Camilla Pierce and Jadyn and Alyssa Coffey; 3 sisters-in-law, Nettie Carter, Marie Carter and Wilma Carter; plus her special little friend, Faith Smith.
She was also preceded in death by 10 brothers: Frank, Aaron, Clarence, Ernest, Bill, Coleman, Allie, Paul, Sammy and Bobby Gene Carter; and sisters-in-law, Pauline Carter Shank, Cleo Carter, Pauline Weaver Carter, Sue Lookabill Carter, Lucille Carter and Evelyn Carter.
A celebration of life service was conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 16 at Cornatzer United Methodist Church officiated by Revs. Shane Young and Jack D. Luther. The family received friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
