BERMUDA RUN – You don’t often see the word free these days, but when you do, take advantage of the generosity of others.
The town is sponsoring three free events for folks to enjoy. The Davie County Arts Council is helping the town put together the events with a variety of music. All three are to be presented at the gazebo within Kinderton Commercial Center (off US 158).
The first concert will feature beach and popular tunes played by Special Occasion Band. This group has been playing together for more than 20 years, and are known throughout the Carolinas for their versatility and depth of talent. A dance floor will be provided for those who like to shag.
Bring a lawn chair (and a picnic/cooler, if you like) to hear your favorite tunes at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 28. (If it rains on the 28th the concert will be held on Sunday, May 29 at 7 p.m.)
The second concert in the series being called “Sounds on the Square,” is “Gershwin On the Square.” This concert will be performed by musicians who are also members of area symphonies and features Martha Bassett who is well known for her talent as a vocalist. It will be June 25 (rain date June 26) to hear favorite Gershwin Broadway hits and, in honor of the upcoming Fourth of July, some of his patriotic melodies.
The last free event requires a special title. “River Walk,” a celebration of art and music, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 (rain date Oct. 1). Local artists can register with the arts council to be included in this day-long event.
There will be an area where children can create their own works of art. Special bluegrass music and the Davie Community Band will also be featured so bring a lawn chair, kick back and listen to the music. Food trucks will offer a variety of foods for purchase. River Walk will begin at 11 a.m. and close with music by Second Chance Bluegrass from 5-6:30 p.m. and then Back Porch Bluegrass at 7.
