“KidsFest: Fun for the Whole Family” will be held on Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Brock Gym and Masonic Picnic Grounds.
This free community event is co-sponsored by Smart Start of Davie and the Mocksville-Davie Parks and Recreation Department. KidsFest will occur rain or shine. Attendance was over 800 last year and similar attendance is expected this year.
This event will offer a host of interactive activities geared towards children and families.
Some of the featured events include: an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house, fire truck and smoke house, bunnies, a magic show and balloonist, Zumba, obstacle course, combined all county elementary school chorus, Lowe’s Build and Grow, face painting, and more.
The Davie YMCA will offer several activities for children and new to KidsFest this year is a smoothie bike provided by Davie YMCA. Riding the bike powers an attached blender to make smoothies.
The new featured Parent/Child session is Kidpower, hosted by Davie Domestic Violence. This parent session will share skills for lifelong safety and success.
Also new this year is the Senior Center Boogie Brigade dancers.
The North Carolina Rail Yard Buddies will set up an O-gauge display of model trains.
There will be many representatives from community non-profits and service agencies hosting crafts, games and providing information to parents on family resources and child care.
“At this year’s KidsFest, we are really encouraging families to be interactive and learn about the resources available in the community,” said Gena Taylor, Smart Start executive director. “We want to encourage parents to be involved with their kids and this event shows families just how much fun that can be. We want to encourage families to visit with the local agencies to learn more about the programs and services that are available to them in Davie County.”
Each vendor inside the gym will feature an interactive activity for all children.
Smart Start will give away t-shirts, while supplies last, to young children attending the event at the Smart Start table inside the gym.
All events at KidsFest are free, but registration is required. Save time in line by visiting the Smart Start website to pre-register at www.daviesmartstart.org. Food will be available for purchase.
“Smart Start of Davie County would like to thank all of the organizations that work together with us and the Mocksville-Davie Parks and Recreation Department to make this event possible,” Taylor said. “We are fortunate to have the support of the Davie County community.”
