Shelby Olen Smith, 80, died Friday, April 29, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Norfolk, Va., to the late Joseph and Ruby Smith. He graduated from Gray High School in Winston-Salem with the class of 1955. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 15 years and for McLean Trucking Co. in Winston-Salem NC for 16 years. He retired from Trimac Transportation in 2009. He loved being a truck driver.
Survivors: his wife of 39.5 years, Elaine Ginther Smith; 3 sons, Michael G. Smith (Marie) of Phafftown, Phillip G. Smith (Gaye) of Mocksville, and Timothy M. Smith of Kernersville; a brother, Tommy Smith of Casselberry, Fla.; a grandson, Matthew Smith; 3 granddaughters, Anna Smith, Rachel Smith (Wesley), and Emily Harden (Justin); and a great-grandson due in July.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Davie Funeral Service. The celebration of life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Davie Funeral Service Chapel officiated by George Newman. Burial followed in Rose Cemetery in Mocksville.
