Jaime Alberto Arias Montoya, 28, died in an automobile accident Friday, March 18, 2016, in Cumming, Ga.

He was born in the Republic of Colombia on Feb. 5, 1988, the only son of Lucy Marleny Arias Montoya of Statesville. He was a 2008 graduate of Statesville High School and a 2015 graduate of Western Carolina University with a degree in criminal justice. He had worked with the Hickory Police Department and as a security officer. He had attended St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Statesville.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by: his step-father, David McFadden of the home; 2 uncles, German Arias (Luz Mary) and Hernan Arias; 5 aunts, Maria Pierremont (Guy), Teresita Orlitta (John), Blanca Arias, Daicy Velasquez (Hector) and Evcaris Arias (Jaime Echeverry); plus numerous cousins.

The family received friends at Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville on Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Statesville at 11 a.m. Monday officiated by the Rev. Father Thomas J. Kessler, pastor.
