Mr. Gerard “Jerry” Zickmund, 79, formerly of Milling Road, Mocksville, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at UF Health Jacksonville in Florida.

He was born Dec. 12, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Joseph and Helen Gallagher Zickmund. Mr. Zickmund had been a long-time member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Mocksville. His hobbies included going to the water and taking pictures of the sunrises, fishing, computer technology and bowling. He enjoyed spending time with family and grandkids.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Ann Terceira Zickmund; 4 brothers, Bernard, Richard, Joe and Herbert Zickmund; and extended family member, Michael Zickmund.

Survivors: his wife, Mary Bernadette O’Brien Zickmund of the home; 4 children, Roxanne Daley (Timothy) of Conroe, Texas, Cindy Draper (John) of Indianapolis, Ind., Gary Zickmund (Vicky) and Angelique Chamberlain (Michael), all of Mocksville; extended family, Barbara Avery of Conyers, Ga., Robert Zickmund (Liz) of Long Island, N.Y.,  a sister, Rita Bakewell; a brother, Kenneth Zickmund; 7 grandchildren, Christopher, Ashley, Cameron, Joanna, Natalie, Tyler, Emme, Kinnah and Eli; and numerous other grandchildren in his extended family.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 1 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Starczewski officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Cemetery, Mocksville. The family will receive friends at Eaton Funeral Home, Mocksville from 6-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 29.
