A rezoning request for over five acres off Country Lane was unanimously approved by the Mocksville Town Board members Feb. 2.
Thomas McCaskill requested the rezoning from residential to commercial use for the relocation of The Country Veterinary Hospital. McCaskill’s wife, Jessica, is the owner and veterinarian of the primarily small-animal practice. Their clinic opened on North Main Street in Downtown Mocksville in 2012, and the plan is to be in the new location, which is near US 158, by spring 2017.
McCaskill said the clinic will look like a small farmhouse with a small barn, and the hope is to leave as many trees intact as possible, tucking the buildings into the landscape.
“This won’t be a brick and mortar structure. We envision something that will blend in, something much more unique and fitting to Davie County,” he said.
The current clinic is too small and the location is a bit too hectic for the animals, McCaskill said, and many clients have asked about boarding their pets, something they are unable to do at the current location but plan to do at the new location.
“We will continue to offer emergency and routine health care but will be adding boarding. Our current space doesn’t allow us to do everything we want, so we want to be able to offer all the services our clients want.”
