Cindy Stone is the new principal at Davie County High School, and Michael Pruitt is the new director of accountability and student information for the Davie County School System.
Stone had been principal at South Davie Middle School, Pruitt the principal at Davie High.
With 30 years of experience in education, Stone has served Davie students and families since 2013. She previously worked as assistant principal and principal at Cooleemee Elementary.
Stone began her career in Yadkin County Schools, where she taught many grade levels, including middle school math, for 18 years.
“We are excited to welcome Ms. Stone as the next leader of Davie County High,” said Jinda Haynes, interim superintendent. “She brings not only a wealth of experience but also a proven ability to lead schools to new levels of success. We are confident her vision and commitment to excellence will have a positive impact on our high school community.”
Stone holds a master’s degree in elementary education from Gardner-Webb University, a bachelor’s from University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and an administration license from Appalachian State University.
She began her new role on July 1.

Pruitt has with 22 years of experience in public education, has served as principal of Davie High since 2021. He led the school through a comprehensive STEAM transition, launched a new freshman academy, and oversaw a rise in the overall graduation rate. He joined Davie County Schools in 2014 when he was hired as a social studies teacher at Davie High. Later, he was promoted to assistant principal at the high school and then principal at North Davie Middle School.
In his new position, Pruitt will oversee the district’s student information systems and accountability programs, including the collection and reporting of local, state and federal data. He will collaborate with school and district leaders to monitor student performance, support school improvement plans and ensure compliance with testing and reporting requirements. His role also includes supporting teachers and administrators to make informed decisions that impact instruction, student growth.
Mr. Pruitt was a NC Teaching Fellow, district Teacher of the Year in Wilkes County, and Assistant Principal of the Year in Davie County Schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Elon University and a master’s in history and secondary education from Appalachian State University. He also earned his EdS in educational leadership in 2019 from Appalachian, where he is working toward his doctorate in educational leadership.
