Several family and friends gathered at the home of Junior Dunn on Thursday, May 15 to help him celebrate his 92nd birthday. Junior is well known in the bluegrass world for his band and weekly show on WDSL radio. A large assortment of food and birthday cake was enjoyed. We all wish Junior a very Happy Birthday and many more.
Bingo at the Sheffield-Calahaln Community Center is scheduled for Friday, June 20. Doors open at 6 p.m. for concessions and bingo starts at 7. There will be 20 games of bingo, a 50/50 drawing, a grand prize drawing and several cakewalks. Bingo cards are $5 each. Concessions consists of hotdogs, chips, drinks and desserts and is donation only. We are excited to welcome everyone to a great night of bingo, great food and fellowship. Aug. 15 will be a great back-to-school bingo.
Hotdog Saturday at New Union is ready to serve up those great hotdogs Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the church parking lot. There will be a bake sale. The church is County Line and Sheffield roads, Mocksville.
Harmony Public Library has lots happening in June and July. Each Tuesday at 11 a.m., kids age 6-11 are invited to join in the weekly Summer Reading fun; each Wednesday at 10:30, there will be a fun storytime session for toddlers and preschoolers; and each Thursday at 4 p.m., there will be teen programs. The following special events in June: Bright Star Theatre presents the “Wizard of Oz” on June 4 at 11 a.m.; Chair Exercise class on June 5 at 11a.m. for adults; learn how flowers color our world on June 14 at 2 p.m. at the Butterfly Garden flowers class; on June 18 at 11:30 will be a “Camouflage in Animals” where you’ll learn about animal disguises with a Lake Norman Park Ranger; a monthly Book Club will be June 19 at 11 a.m.; and on June 30 at 11, meet the turtle sniffing dogs at Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center.
