Ever curious about where the first school in Davie County might have met?
Step inside it yourself.
The owners of the circa 1830s brick schoolhouse where Peter S. Ney taught have invited members of the Davie County Historical and Genealogical Society and their guests to see their restoration in person on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at 537 S. Salisbury St. in Mocksville. There will be car pools from the library on North Main Street.
This is no doubt the oldest extant school house in the county and perhaps the oldest brick building still standing, according to Marcia Phillips, historian at the library. Information sheets are available in the History Room at the library.
“This is a rare occasion of it being open to the public so plan to join us and step back in time.”
