Ruth Elizabeth Chaffin Gaither Snow

Ruth Elizabeth Chaffin Gaither Snow, 84, of Mocksville died Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
Born in Davie County on March 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John Bunyan Chaffin and Hazel Elizabeth Blackwelder Chaffin. She was first married to the late Kelly Lee Gaither Sr. In her earlier years, they enjoyed NASCAR racing and they, along with their late son, Kelly Lee Gaither Jr., went to a Daytona race. She had a love for flowers and was able to grow many varieties in flower beds in her yard. She took great pride in her yard and enjoyed decorating it. She was fascinated with Purple Martin birds and maintained housing for them for more than 45 years. Crocheting was one of her indoor hobbies. Mrs. Snow was a life-time member of Ijames Baptist Church and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Mocksville High School. She worked as a case worker for the Department of Social Services. Until their passing, she was care giver for Kelly Sr. and Kelly Jr.
On July 24, 2004, she married S.T. Snow. Also surviving: 2 sons, Curtis Gaither and wife Retha of Harmony, and Ronald “Moony” Gaither of Jonesville; a stepson Dale Snow of Harmony; 2 daughters, Brenda Crowe and husband Phil and Kathy Elizabeth Gaither, both of Mocksville; a brother, Joe Tommy Chaffin (Judy Collett), of Mocksville; 7 grandchildren, Robby Robinson, Rhonda Martin, Shanda Gaither, Michael Crowe, Nathan Crowe, Anthony Gaither and Jennifer Gaither; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Gaither, a great- grandson, Tyler Aaron Mabe, a brother and a sister.
The family received friends on Tuesday, July 7 at Davie Funeral Service. The celebration of life service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8 at Davie Funeral Service Chapel officiated by the Revs. David Walters, Franklin Myers and Daniel Harmon. Burial followed in the Ijames Baptist Church Cemetery.
