County Health and Human Services will host the upcoming Recovery Road Stakeholders Meeting and Community Resource Fair May 1, from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Davie County Government Center, 154 Government Center Drive in Mocksville.

This event, formerly known as the annual opioid summit, has been rebranded to foster excitement and engagement within the community.

The Recovery Road Stakeholders Meeting and Community Resource Fair aims to highlight the resources and efforts dedicated to assisting the community. Over the past three years, the annual opioid summit has evolved into Recovery Road, a platform that addresses substance use recovery and mental health advocacy and awareness of community supports.

“We believe that by renaming our event to Recovery Road, we can establish an annual event that has strong attendance and involvement from throughout the community each year,” said Summer Scardino, Davie County Opioid Community Outreach Navigator. “This change reflects our commitment to ongoing support for substance use recovery programs, mental health advocacy, and raising awareness of available resources.”

A major component of the Recovery Road Stakeholders Meeting and Community Resource Fair’s mission is to end the stigma surrounding substance use recovery. By fostering open dialogue and showcasing the successes of available programs, this event hopes to humanize the efforts against the opioid epidemic and encourage active community participation in this vital conversation, she said.

The event will feature data presentations, advocacy initiatives for future changes, and personal testimonies from individuals with lived experience. “Through these efforts, we hope to emphasize our dedication to supporting individuals and families affected by substance use disorders,” she said.

The Recovery Road Stakeholders Meeting and Community Resource Fair will also serve as a platform to raise awareness of Davie resources crucial for providing support to program participants. Representatives from Davie County Health and Human Services, Davie County Sheriff’s Office, Davie County Emergency Medical Services, Davie County Schools, and other community partners will be in attendance to showcase their collaborative efforts.

“Our goal for this event is not only to inform the community of our ongoing efforts but also to empower them to advocate for these programs that truly make a difference,” said Scardino. “We are committed to providing empathetic support and working collaboratively to ensure that every individual receives the care they deserve.”

The Recovery Road Stakeholders Meeting and Community Resource Fair is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend and participate in the collective effort to combat substance use issues.

“Together, we can create lasting change and support the dreams of every member of our community,” she said.
