John A. Coil

John A. Coil, 86, of Mocksville, died on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Regency Care, Clemmons. He had been declining health for several months.
He was born on April 8, 1929 in Swan, Ind., to Albert and Fern (Warner) Coil. On May 21, 1950 in Andrews, Ind., he married Virginia Blake; she survives.
Also surviving: a daughter, Sally Ann (Michael) Brill of Advance; a son, John A. (Janette) Coil of Kansas City, Kan.; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Keith A. Coil of Huntertown, Ind., Harry Malcolm Coil of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Jesse E. Coil of Crawfordsville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister, Wanda Lee Hampton; and a brother, Warner Albert Coil.
He had been pastor of several Christian churches through the years. He had been the director of building, grounds and transportation for the Middlebury School Corporation, built two golf courses (Oak Hills, Middlebury, and Hawthorne Hills, Carmel,) and hauled milk from farm to dairy in his earlier years. He resided in Venice, Fla. for 17 years after retirement then moved to Mocksville due to declining health and to be close to family. He was a former member of Central Christian Church and most recently of First United Methodist Church in Mockville, had an associate membership at St. Mark’s Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday July 10 and 10-11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury, Ind. Services will be conducted by his son John Coil. Family and friends may gather for a graveside service at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Swan Township Cemetery, LaOtto, Ind.
