Lester Harden Hockaday

Mr. Lester Harden Hockaday, 82, of Advance, died Sunday, March 22, 2015 surrounded by his family.
Born Aug. 23, 1932 in Davie County, he was the son of the late William Henry Hockaday and Pattie (Cope) Hockaday. He served in the Army during the Korean War and worked at Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 33 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching all types of sports, especially cheering and supporting all his grandchildren in their sports and activities. He was a Duke basketball and Dodgers baseball fan and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church.
Survivors: his wife of 57 years, Carolyn S. Hockaday; 2 children, Mark and Barbara Hockaday of High Point, and Anita (Hockaday) and Tim Simkins,of Wake Forest; 4 grandchildren, Chad and Chelsea Hockaday, Olivia Hockaday, Joshua Simkins, and Katelyn Simkins; 1 sibling, Thurmond Hockaday of Advance; and many other nieces, nephews and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Susan Hockaday, his brother, Houston Hockaday, and his sister, Mary (Hockaday) York.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 29 at the Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. Friends visited with the family Sunday before the ceremony.
