The “We Honor Veterans” program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), Veterans Administration (VA) and Hospice & Palliative CareCenter held a monthly veterans event at Sagebrush Steakhouse in Mocksville on March 5.
Free coffee and doughnuts were provided and there was a great turnout- even in the rain. The event made it to the N.C. Division of Veterans Affairs (NCDVA) newsletter.
E. Meagan Williams, the Davie Veterans Service Officer, spoke about what the Davie County Veterans Office does to assist veterans and their dependents.
Barry Cartner from the State Veterans Nursing Home in Salisbury and Barry West and Nancy Luckey, service officers from the NCDVA Clemmons office, were also there.
Don Timmons from Hospice & Palliative CareCenter shared what they do and why he put this event together. There were a couple other speakers who spoke about their programs offered for veterans.
The event will take place the first Thursday of each month at Sagebrush from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
“It’s a great way to connect veterans and their loved ones with much needed benefits information and the opportunity for organizations to network their resources for the improvement of the local veteran population,” Williams said. “We hope to have an even larger turnout in the upcoming months as word spreads about this event.”
