Brandon Jones of Mocksville, an electrical mechanical engineer in the U.S. Army, said winning a $150,000 scratch-off prize felt like a big shock.
“You don’t believe it at first,” Jones, 21, said Monday as he arrived at lottery headquarters in Raleigh to claim his prize. “It’s like a big jolt to your body, like adrenaline. Pretty cool.”
His win came with a $5 Super Loteria ticket he purchased at the Home Run Market on Statesville Boulevard in Salisbury.
He said he planned to “hold onto” his winnings and sometime in the future use the money to buy or build a house. After federal and state tax withholdings, he received $106,876.
“Appreciate it,” said Jones after getting his big check.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise $2.5 million a day on average for education. For details on how money raised by the lottery made a difference in Davie County last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
