Margaret W. Summers

Margaret Worley Summers, 90, of Mocksville, died on June 26, 2014. 

The homegoing service was conducted Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at Fork Baptist Church, US 64 East, Mocksville, officiated by the Rev. Robert Garrett and Dr. Michael W. Coffey. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was at the church.

Mrs. Summers was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Winston-Salem to Ray Allison Thompson and Ethel Langston Thompson. She professed her faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized and joined Fork Baptist Church at age 14, where she remained a supportive life-long member.On Oct. 7, 1949, she married James Ross Worley, following his World War II Army service in Europe. Being the last of the five children to leave home, she always honored her parents by hard work, support, and care throughout their lives. They knew long hard days of work on the farm and in the furniture industry, raising their children, gardening, and caring for her aging mother. She was proud of her children’s accomplishments in school, the military, and careers. Both retired from Burlington Industries in Lexington. After building their home and family, a loving and caring marriage of 50 years ended when her husband died.In later years, she was re-introduced to a Shady Grove High School friend, William G. Summers of Mocksville, and they were married in 2000. No stranger to hard work, again she worked as a homemaker, gardened, and helped with his beef cattle farm. They attended Fork Baptist and Oak Grove Methodist, both being life-long members. Illness again took her husband. She has been supported by many family, church, and special close friends through all these years, bringing much comfort to her: the families of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Rummage, Danny Brown, Wayne Rentz, the Senior Ladies Class of Fork Baptist, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Baity, Mr. and Mrs. John Seaford, Wilma B. Smith, and Lorraine Litten.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brothers John A. Thompson and Ray J. Thompson, sisters Lorene Thompson Brooks and Kathleen Thompson Knight. 

Surviving: her daughter, Sarah Marie Coffey and husband Michael of Denver, N.C.; son James Ray Worley and fiancée, Meridee Floyd of Cherryville; grandson Michael N. McKenzie and wife, Leslie, and great-grandson Michael Wayne McKenzie, all of Smithfield, Va.; her sister, Bessie Thompson Oliver Darr of Lexington; step-daughter Brenda Summers of Raleigh; step-sons William Summers and wife Marcia, and Robert Summers and wife Karen, all of Clemmons; and many nieces and nephews.
