The school board unanimously approved a budget draft for the 2013-14 year last week.
Superintendent Dr. Darrin Hartness reminded the board that without a state budget in place, and not knowing what federal revenues will be, creating a budget is challenging, and whatever was approved would likely change.
“Davie County Schools has continued to be fiscally responsible by preserving as many services for students as possible, even with the reduction of state resources over the past several years. This budget… is a draft budget that will need to be further adjusted based on final local, state, and federal allotments.”
He made similar statements to county commissioners at a Monday budget workshop, asking for the same about in current expense funding – $9.54 million – as in the past four years.
While other systems were forced to cut staff last year, Davie was able to adjust the number of people working with students through retirements and resignations, and not through reductions in force.
