Davie County court officials are putting into place expanded operations to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and keep employees and the public safe.

“We want the public to know that we have implemented a number of safety measures and worked with local public health officials to make sure that we are as safe as possible to conduct court business in Davie County,” said Resident Superior court Judge Lori I. Hamilton, who is also the district COVID-19 coordinator. “We ask for your patience as we work to resume normal operations.”

Only those who have business with the court will be allowed inside the courthouse. Safety measures include hand sanitizing stations at entrances, and marked social distancing spaces.

“Court is going to look different for a while,” Hamilton said. “Dockets will be smaller. Courtrooms will be marked so that everyone can sit at least six feet apart. Many hearings will be conducted online without the parties or the attorneys ever coming into the courthouse.”

The public is encouraged to wear face coverings at the courthouse. They may be asked to wait outside until their case is called.
