Mrs. Stella Bernice Hanes Dwiggins, 98, of Mocksville, formerly of Oak Drive in Asheboro, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Somerset Court.
She was born on Sept. 18, 1921 in Davie County to the late George Clifford and Kate Howard Hanes. Mrs. Dwiggins attended Smith Grove United Methodist Church for many years before moving to Asheboro, where she attended West Bend United Methodist Church. She was a beautiful lady who was smart, funny and kind. She was a talented homemaker and cook who will be remembered for her strength and the love and generosity she showed her family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by: her husband of 65 years, William Harrison Dwiggins; and 5 siblings, Howard Hanes, Hazel Hanes Hendricks, Gladys Hanes Cheshire, Lillian Hanes Beauchamp, and Ray Hanes.
Survivors: 2 children, Doris Dwiggins Chicoine (Roger) of Manassas, Va. and William Anthony Dwiggins (Sue) of Duluth, Ga.; a brother, Charlie Craig Hanes of Mocksville; 5 grandchildren, Marnie Dwiggins Witters (Steve), Marc Dwiggins (Melissa), Justin Chicoine (Ashlee), Evan Chicoine (Ariana), and Cameron Chicoine (Sierra); 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted at noon Saturday, March 14 at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Marc Dwiggins officiating. Burial followed in Smith Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service.
