Johnny Thomas Jones Sr., 80, of Mocksville, died on June 5, 2019 in Dobson, while under the care of the Woltz Hospice House.

He was born on Aug. 28, 1938 in Davie County, a son to the late Rufus Frank Jones and Martha Fetney Trivett Jones. He attended Davie County Schools and later married Hazel Lee Miller.

He was also preceded in death by: his wife; his brother, Pete; and his sisters, Ruth, Katie Whitaker, Josie Smith and Thelma Reavis.

He worked as a machine operator for Ingersol Rand for 30 years and he spent 10 years proudly serving in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he completed his high school education. He attended the Chestnut Grove Methodist Church where he served as a backup Sunday school teacher. He loved being involved with the church. In his leisure time, he liked working in his yard, as well as construction and woodworking.

Survivors: sons, Johnny Thomas Jones Jr. (Norma) of Yadkinville, and Donald Lee Jones (Tina) of Mocksville; daughters, Debbie Hutchens (Billy) of Boonville, and Patty Jones Gunter of Mocksville; brothers, Wayne Jones (Linda) of Lexington, and Gene Jones of Florida; sister, Nancy Tilley (Charlie) of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren,Chad Vastel, Johnathan Jones, Crystal Jones, Brittney Auton and Courtney Jones; 4 great-grandchildren, Bryleigh Vestal, Bree Auton, Colby Butcher and Gracie Butcher; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held on Sunday, June 9 at the Davie Funeral Service Chapel in Mocksville from 2-3 p.m. A funeral service was held following, also at the Davie Chapel, with Pastor David Gilbreath officiating. Burial followed at Yadkin Memorial Gardens.
