It’s more than another day off from work. It’s more than the unofficial start of the summer season.
Memorial Day is a time to remember military personnel who died in service to their country.
Davie County will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at the Brock Performing Arts Center on North Main Street in Mocksville.
The Davie High School JROTC will present the colors to open the observance, and performers will include the Davie County Singing Seniors, the Davie County High School Vocal Ensemble and Benita Finney.
Guest speaker will be Matt Settlemyer, Mocksville town manager since September. He grew up in Morganton, and has served in local government since 1995 for Hickory, Long View, Huntersville, Drexel and Black Mountain before coming to Mocksville.
He and wife Bridget, a career counselor with Davidson County Community College, have a 24-year-old son in the Army, and 18-year-old son in college, two 17-year-old daughters in high school, and a 12-year-old son in middle school.
The public is invited to the observance sponsored by Graham Funeral Home, the Town of Mocksville and Davie County.
