Arrive early.
That’s the advice Davie Master Gardeners have for their annual plant sale Friday off South Main Street in Downtown Mocksville.
It starts at 8 a.m., but people usually start arriving by 7:30. By late morning, many of the plants are gone.
“We have people who come and spend hundreds of dollars,” said Mark Holshouser, master gardener who is helping promote the sale.
“Come early, because the good stuff goes fast,” said Rebekah Brown, who grows many of the plants in a greenhouse and around her home near Mocksville. “We have good prices because we want people to be able to afford it, and talk to people who have experience with that plant.”
Brown prefers unusual plants, especially pollinator-attracting plants, but grows many of the standards because that is what people want to buy.
There will be tomato plants, Wave petunia hanging baskets, cucumbers, squash, melons, succulents, perennials and more.
“I want to impart the excitement about plants that I have,” Brown said. “I love doing the plants and talking to people about plants.”
Her love for growing things started early. She planted peanuts in her sandbox at age 6 and has been at it ever since.
“I just want to play in the dirt,” she said.
