Robert Dwight Rogers

Mr. Robert Dwight Rogers, 74, of Sheffield Road, Mocksville, died on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

He was born Sept. 27, 1944 in Iredell County to the late Carl Marion and Mary Kathryn Ratledge Rogers. He was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during Vietnam. He retired as an area manager with Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed playing softball and fishing and had enjoyed the time he lived in Florida and the friends that he made there. He never met a stranger and always said that people are the same, they had lives with troubles and sorrows and everyone needed to hear about Jesus. In order to tell them about Jesus, you had to get in their heart and feel their sorrow with them, he said.

He had just celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary and would always laugh and say, “No that’s 100. 50 for me and 50 for her.”

He was a member of Ijames Crossroads Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, treasurer and many other positions of leadership. He always headed up the fish fries and the fall chicken stew for many years. He liked piddling in his shop and having people stop by to chat. He was a fisherman and when he said he caught a nice one, it was the truth. Most of all, he loved Jesus which was evident in his life.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Clark Rogers.

Survivors: his wife, Creola Gobble Rogers of the home; 3 sons, Robert Shane Rogers, Philip Rogers and Andrew Rogers (Diana), all of Mocksville; grandchildren, Torri Rogers Ginther, Zach Rogers, Aidan Rogers, Alex Rogers and Brandon Rogers; a great-grandson, Greyson Clark Ginther; a brother, Randy Rogers; several cousins; and many special friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at noon Wednesday, Jan. 16 at Ijames Crossroads Baptist Church with the Revs. Franklin Myers and Ben Mull officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Eaton Funeral Home.
