Republicans picked for school board; sales tax fails

Davie County will get a new member on the board of education, as the three Republicans running for the three available seats won – Clint Junker with 12,395 votes, Lori Sluder Smith with 11,295 and David Carroll with 9,163. Incumbent Barbara Owens, unaffiliated, got 5,82 votes and Democrat Vicky Moore had 4,299 votes.
Davie voters also said no to a quarter cent sales and use tax for emergency services, with 8,842 voting against the request, and 8,040 voting for it.
Advance fire district voters approved establishing a fire tax district, 763 votes to 644.
All are according to unofficial totals released Tuesday night.
