Mocksville Garden Club members got tips on making floral arrangements at their meeting on Thursday, Nov. 2 in the fellowship mall of the First United Methodist Church.
Twenty-eight members were present. The meeting was opened with an inspirational piece by Ruth Foster. As the group has had a number of new members, following the inspiration, each member shared information about themselves, so that new and continuing members will know each other better.
The program was presented by Jean Harpe, a club member and an accomplished creator of fresh and dried floral creations. She shared instruments needed for use when designing a floral creation and information on how to use these instruments and how to treat live flowers so that they will last longer. Many questions were asked and she was able to answer all.
Following the program Nancy Moore, Judy Rosser and Lore Tromp provided refreshments.
The business meeting was brought to order by Becky Peters, president. The membership report was given by Betty Andrews. Ruth Foster updated financial information and Jean Harpe reminded members that minutes were previously sent. No changes have been received, so they were approved as written.
The group decided to send memorials to two former members who recently died.
Linda Dean gave an update on the status of plans for the Christmas party and Lindsay Cartner shared information on the silent auction to take part during the Christmas party.
The group discussed the planters at length. Pansies were planted the previous week and all were asked to assist in care of the plants.
Lastly, the ongoing greenery sale was discussed. All orders must be in by Nov. 16. Becky and Pat Reilly will be at the library from 6-7 that evening to accept final orders.
The door prize for the meeting was brought by Ruth Foster and was won by Betty Andrews.
