Lucy Ann Barney

Ms. Lucy Ann Barney, 93, formerly of Peoples Creek Road, Advance, died Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Somerset Court in Mocksville.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1931 in Davie County to the late Wiley S. and Paulina Elizabeth Shermer Barney.
Lucy was a very active member of Advance United Methodist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher for many years. She graduated from Shady Grove High School, Class of 1949. The Class celebrated reunions yearly, having celebrated their last reunion, their 70th, in 2019. She retired form Hanes Knitting after 43½ years of service. Lucy enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach, and was always proud to have been “Advance Queen” in the Advance Christmas Parade.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her siblings, Roy Barney (Ola), Paul Barney (Betty), and Barbara Boger (Henry).
Survivors include: her brother, Rommie Barney (Cathy) of Advance; and many nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff of Somerset Court and to Well Care Hospice for the wonderful care given to Lucy.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23 at Advance United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Key officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church.
