Cognition Interactive Children’s Museum and Makerspace is growing – with more community support and more educational reach events in 2025.
So far this year, more than 4,000 visitors have walked through Cognition’s doors – families, educators, students, and curious minds of all ages, said Shannon Ford, executive director.
In the past three months, the museum has experienced a 120 percent increase in attendance compared to the same period last year.
Other highlights include:
• 26 school field trips reaching more than 1,000 students;
• a summer membership campaign, with more than 40 new families joining in the past few weeks;
• a full lineup of STEAM-based programs including storytime, summer camps, workshops, and family events (STEAM -Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math); and
• a fully staffed team dedicated to expanding Cognition’s mission also including Crystal Moody, site coordinator, and April Sapp, education coordinator.
“What happens inside these four walls is truly special,” Ford said. “There’s a sense of community here that’s hard to describe until you’ve experienced it. Whether it’s parents connecting over a casual cup of coffee during Mom’s Morning Out, teachers finding support and inspiration as our education staff lead engaging field trips, or adults sharing laughter and learning new skills at one of our hands-on workshops – there is space for everyone here. Definitely stop in or check out our website.
“Cognition continues to offer high-quality, affordable educational programming for children and families across Davie County and beyond,” she said.
The museum provides:
• STEAM exhibits;
• school field trips;
• summer and school break camps;
• family engagement events;
• adult classes & workshops;
• birthday oarties & private events;
• STEAM storytime; and
• Mom’s Morning Out.
Ford encourages residents to get involved:
• schedule a tour for yourself or your team;
• volunteer professional expertise;
• help connect the museum with families, schools, or community partners; or
• sponsor a program, field trip, or event.
