May was Older American’s Month, and it was celebrated with a variety of activities at Davie Senior Services
May kicked off with the monthly Veteran’s Social followed by the Under the Sea Party on May 2. The party featured the Davie High School Musical Theatre class performing songs from their spring show, “The Little Mermaid.”
On May 9, Senior Services celebrated Mothers and Daughters at the annual Mother Daughter Banquet. This event is a longstanding tradition. Lynn Vogler, Ms. Senior Davie County 2024, performed a skit titled “Texting for Seniors with Ms. Imma.” This event was a great time for fellowship and fun.
Twice a year, Senior Services invites the county and town leaders to come and sit down with the seniors and have a discussion. This event is called Meet Your County Officials and Town Mayors and was held May 14. This event was well attended.
Bingo was sponsored by Prevette & Son Plumbing and the County Manager, Brian Barnett, was invited to call the games. Everyone had a great time.
On May 23, Senior Services hosted Ms. Snider’s Davie High School English 4 classes for the Senior2Senior Party. This was successful with more than 70 students and more than 30 seniors. It is a true testament to intergenerational conversation and enjoyed by the high school seniors and the seniors.
Several fundraisers were held in May to highlight Older American’s Month: Jersey Mike’s, Restaurant 101, and Sam’s Ice Cream.
