Kathy Elaine Peoples Wishon of Yadkinville passed away Monday, April 21, 2025 at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born in Rowan County to Isaac R. (Ike) and Margie Essic Peoples on Nov. 12, 1949.
Kathy grew up in the William R. Davie community in Davie County, graduating from Davie County High School in 1968, where she was voted wittiest in her class and served as secretary of the senior class. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Appalachian State University and taught 30 years in the primary grades at Yadkinville School.
She enjoyed being with friends and family, going to Duke basketball games, scrapbooking and researching family genealogy. She was a collector of many things, including ceramics, Depression glass, Duke paraphernalia, and many other things. Her most prized collection was her friends. She grew up with the Harpes and Becks, loved class reunions to see school friends, had such good friends from college and teaching days and from scrapbooking. She made friends everywhere she went. She was active in Jaycees when she moved to Yadkinville and later was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma teaching society and Yadkin County Retired School Personnel.
On June 14, 1992, she married Tracy Wishon, who was her husband and best friend.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; father and mother-in-law; and a great-nephew, Aaron.
She is survived by: her husband Tracy; her brother Bob Peoples and wife Joyce; nephews, David (Catherine) Peoples, and Michael (Jamie) Peoples; niece, Jenny Peoples; 5 great-nephews; 2 great-nieces; one great-great-niece; one great-great nephew; and sister-in-law, Lisa Wishon.
Her funeral service was held April 28 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville. Burial followed at Chestnut Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
