There’s a new book about the history of First Methodist church in Mocksville, authored by Linda Barnette.
“After I joined First Methodist church in 2020, I chose to become part of the history committee,” she said. “I worked closely with Jenny Turner and Ruth Hoyle to organize the files in the history room at church. I also joined a Sunday School class.
“One Sunday morning last summer, Jenny Turner came over and asked me rather casually if I would be interested in writing a history of First Methodist Church. I said, “ Sure.”
A huge undertaking, indeed, but there was a plethora of information in the church library.
“Little did I know what a huge undertaking that would be although there was a lot of material in the library at church. With much help from Jenny and several other church members, the book was finished last month.”
Marie Craig formatted the book and got it ready to publish. Marcia Philips requested a copy for the history room at the Davie County Public Library.
The books are available for purchase in the church office for those who are interested.
“As it so happened, writing this book was God’s gift to me in my old age,” Barnette said.
