On Saturday, April 12, Smart Start of Davie County hosted its annual KidsFest at Davie County Community Park, bringing together 26 child-serving agencies and hundreds of families for a day full of fun, learning, and community connection.
As families arrived, kids had the opportunity to interact with emergency service vehicles from Davie EMS, the Davie Sheriff’s Office, the Davie Fire Marshal, and the Mocksville Fire Department. Children delighted in climbing on the vehicles, chatting with emergency personnel, and snapping photos with the gear.
At registration, families received goody bags filled with resources, free books, and fun items. From there, they explored agency booths where children engaged in activities like miniature golf, making bird feeders, coloring, and blowing bubbles—all while parents connected with community services.
One of the biggest hits of the day was the Cardboard City, featuring giant boxes donated by Daniel Furniture, which inspired endless creative play. Other popular attractions included face painting, fairy hair station and the obstacle course organized by a NHS student.
The event’s main stage kept guests entertained with a variety of performances, including:
• dancers from Davie Senior Services;
• performances by dancers from Advance Dance;
• a magic show by Rock Star Entertainment;
• an aquatic demonstration from the Davie Family YMCA;
• a musical set by the Shining Stars Choir; and
• a martial arts showcase from Mid-Eastern Martial Arts.
Throughout the day, Mobile Jukebox DJ kept the energy high with family-friendly music. Guests also enjoyed making smoothies, petting live bunnies, and shredding unwanted documents at the Davie Senior Services-sponsored shred truck.
Local food vendors Eric and K’s BBQ and Charlie’s Soda Shoppe were on hand to serve lunch.
The event, hosted by Smart Start of Davie in partnership with Davie Recreation and Parks, celebrated the joy of family togetherness and the strength of community partnerships. The day was filled with smiles, connections, and valuable resources to support children and families throughout Davie County.
The day was supported by AmeriHealth Caritas NC, Walmart, Novant, Food Lion of Bermuda Run and KlubFoam.
